The Greater Washington Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy (GWJ$) is is dedicated to equipping educators in the Greater Washington, DC metro area with the resources, training, and support they need to teach personal finance effectively. As an affiliate of the national Jump$tart Coalition, GWJ$ collaborates with schools, community organizations, and industry partners to promote financial literacy and empower the next generation with essential money management skills.

Empowering educators to build a stronger financial future for the greater Washington, DC region
The Greater Washington Jump$tart Coalition’s mission is to advance personal financial literacy among PK-12 and adult students in the greater Washington, DC metro area. We collaborate with educators, community members, and local organizations to promote the integration of financial education into classroom curricula and empower students with the knowledge and skills to make informed financial decisions for their future success.
We accomplish our mission by:
- Providing networking opportunities for financial education partners to share resources and expertise.
- Partnering with schools, communities, and youth programs to conduct and/or support financial literacy efforts.
- Sponsoring professional development events for PreK-12 classroom educators.
- Sharing educational resources offered through financial education partners and other trusted sources.
What We Do
The Greater Washington Jump$tart Coalition works to unite and strengthen the financial literacy community across the greater Washington, DC metro area. Our Board of Directors is composed of representatives from organizations serving diverse audiences and financial education needs throughout the region. We meet monthly to expand our reach and impact, including planning a local Financial Literacy Month event for educators in April 2025. As we continue to grow, we welcome engagement from community members who are interested in learning more about our efforts, supporting key initiatives, or joining our Board to help drive our mission forward.

How you can get involved…
Partners: If you are an organization currently doing financial education work in the DC metro area, join us to collaborate and share ideas about best practices with like-minded organizations and professionals.
Teachers: If you are a teacher in the DC metro area, connect with us to receive financial education resources as well as the support of qualified partners to work with on financial literacy-related concepts and lessons.
Parents: If you are a parent of a school aged child in the DC metro area, connect with us to get resources, tools, and tips to begin or improve teaching your child about personal financial literacy at a young age and continue to reinforce these skills. Jump$tart Clearinghouse
Jump$tart’s online Clearinghouse is the nation’s most comprehensive collection of financial education resources suitable for students in pre-kindergarten through college. All of the resources listing in the Clearinghouse have been reviewed for appropriateness, based on the National Standards in K-12 Personal Finance Education.
A goal of the National Jump$tart Coalition is to identify high-quality personal finance materials for educational use. The Clearinghouse is a database of personal finance resources available from a variety of education providers such as government, business and non-profit organizations. The Clearinghouse provides brief descriptions of more than 600 titles which can be ordered directly from the author or publisher. Nearly 250 resources are offered absolutely free. A growing number of resources can be downloaded instantly from the web. Others are interactive websites where students can learn from simulations of real-life experiences such as designing a college student budget or investing in financial markets. Teachers often use these personal finance teaching materials to support their state’s standards in economics, business, math and family and consumer science.
